With so many books released each year, finding the perfect reads for your book club can be a daunting task. Fear not, book lovers! I’ve curated a list of the very best book club books of 2021 that will not only captivate your members but also spark lively discussions.

Hi there! I’m Holly Larson, MS, RD, a registered dietitian, nutrition copywriter, and bookworm through and through. I’m taking a break from my usual content to share my love of reading with you.

In this post, I’m sharing my favorite books that I’ve read this year, both from my book club finds and the best options I found all on my own. There is just nothing like diving into a great book, is there? I hope you find something that you love as much as I did on this list.

The House in the Cerulean Sea

By TJ Klune.

If you only pick one book from this list, pick this one. It has the magic, whimsey, and British slang that we know and love from the Harry Potter series, the most charming characters with real depth and grit, and a beautiful story of being true to yourself. It’s a lovely book, and I gave it to a LOT of people for Christmas this year. (P.S. I can’t wait for the sequel to be released!!)

Under the Whispering Door

By TJ Klune.

While the first book on this list is also by TJ Klune and is about living your best, most vibrant life, this book is a pivot: it’s about death. In this book, a rather unlikable character does, in fact, die, and the tale is of what happens next. It is a thought-provoking tale of regret and redemption, and not one to be missed.

From Blood and Ash

By Jennifer L. Armentrout.

In this spellbinding fantasy novel, Poppy is the main character, and she has the weight of the entire kingdom on her shoulders. Raised as the Maiden, she is shielded from the world and its dangers, destined never to be touched or looked upon lest she jeopardize the kingdom’s future.

But as external threats mount and Poppy’s sense of duty is put to the test, she begins to question everything, including whom she can truly trust. This book beautifully combines romance, intrigue, and action, making it a must-read for those who love a fiercely captivating story.

Daughter of a Daughter of a Queen

By Sarah Bird.

“Daughter of a Daughter of a Queen” is a remarkable tale that draws inspiration from the true story of Cathy Williams, the first woman to enlist in the peacetime US Army. This gripping novel transports us to the post-Civil War era, where Cathy—disguised as a man—joins the Buffalo Soldiers and embarks on an extraordinary journey.

With courage and determination, Cathy navigates a landscape fraught with peril and prejudice, all while striving to protect her secret and honor her late mother’s legacy. Richly detailed and deeply moving, this book is a tribute to the resilience and the unyielding spirit of a woman who dared to defy the odds.
