The RD Blog Club Case Study: Meet Lorena Drago

Hi there! Today I’d like to introduce you to Lorena, a registered dietitian and long-time member of The RD Blog Club.

Lorena Drago, MS, RD, CDN, CDE, is a registered dietitian, speaker, author, consultant and certified diabetes care and educator specialist.  Lorena specializes in the multicultural aspects of diabetes self-management education and is an expert in developing culturally and ethnically oriented nutrition and diabetes education materials.

Thank you, Lorena, for sharing your experiences and for being a member of The RD Blog Club.

How long have you been a member of the blog club?

Over two years.

How has being a Blog Club member impacted your writing?

The RD Blog Club has been an enriching experience that has impacted my writing journey in a positive way. It has expanded my writing skills and moved me from scientific writing to a more casual and friendly writing style.

What do you find to be the most valuable part of being a member?

What do I love best? It offers constructive feedback while fostering a sense of community.

I like being part of a community that shares the same passion and challenges of bringing our knowledge to our patients and clients. We encourage each other, share tips, and support each other during our journey.

What is your business model? How do you monetize // hope to monetize your blog?

I am reaching the gold number of 50K sessions per month so that I’ll qualify for paid ad revenue, however, I write content for brands and pharmaceutical companies so I have already monetized my blog.

I have used my blog as an example of how SEO and blogging can increase site traffic. It is so compelling that brands have taken notice and currently I have three contracts in which I create content for three different organizations.

Can you quantify the impact of being a member of the club?

Being a member of The RD Blog Club has helped me to stay consistent, even though reaching my traffic goal of 50K sessions per month has taken a while.

What would you tell a fellow dietitian who was considering becoming the next RD Blog Club member?

Join today. The most important step is to start blogging today and to do it consistently. The most frequently asked question when someone reaches the 50K mark, is, “How long did it take you to get there?” and the answer may be 1 year or so.

However, if you don’t blog consistently, it will take you much longer to get there or not get there at all. Belonging to the blog club will provide you with the consistency, structure, and support you need to make it happen.

So where do you want to be a year from now? Earning money? Or just a year older? I think the decision is clear.
